About Florence
Florence sits nestled amongst the gorgeous landscapes of the Tuscany region - famous for its wine, rich artistic legacy and as being the true home of the Italian Renaissance movement. It was in the regional capital of Florence that Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Dante, Botticelli, Machiavelli, Puccini and a host of other brilliant 14th to 16th century Tuscan Renaissance masters carved out artistic history. It is not just art that Tuscany is famous for as the region includes six World Heritage listed architectural sites, stunning countryside vistas and legendary wine varieties including Chianti and Sangiovese. Over 10 million tourists per year choose to visit Florence.
The undoubted highlight is the Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral featuring the Giotto Campanile (bell tower), the Baptistery with its bronze doors known as the "Gate to Paradise" and the famous cupola by Brunelleschi. The Accademia Gallery houses the famous statue of David by Michelangelo, and the Uffizi Gallery boasts superb paintings by Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael.
