2013 British & Irish Lions Tour - NSW Waratahs v British and Irish Lions

The tour makes its first of two visits to the “harbour city” as the NSW Waratahs host the Lions at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium in front of 45,000 passionate fans. Since the Lions last tour, the “Tahs” have been Super Rugby semi-finalists 6 times and losing finalists once and now boast a stable of Australian rugby superstars.

Names such as Elsom, Palu, Polota-Nau, Kepu and Robinson provide the grunt and muscle for an electric set of backs featuring Wallaby speedsters, Mitchell, Turner and Ashley-Cooper, while Horne and Barnes will be joined in 2013 by current Brumbie’s in-form No 7 Michael Hooper.

In 2001 this game was a bruising and spiteful encounter between a near Test strength Lions outfit and an experienced Waratahs squad. It will be forever remembered for 10 second half minutes when it was 12 against 13 as discipline was left in the locker room and 2 yellow cards and red for Tahs full back Duncan McRae were accompanied by Danny Grewcock and Phil Vickery’s 10 minutes in the sin bin for the Lions at the same time.

The Lions eventually won the game by 17 points but no one who was there that day would dare miss this rematch in the country’s most exciting city. The stage is set for an international showdown not to be missed.

Aesthetically, Sydney is unbeatable with the world's best harbour and waterfront city setting. The famous landmarks (no need to mention) all seem to be stationed at exactly the right places to maximise their effects and it's one of those cities that always seems to be excited.

The Rocks, Bondi Beach, Balmain, Darling Harbour, Manly, the Blue Mountains etc. All of these places are a must see, so if you can only make it for a couple of days, tick off what you can and get to the rest when you come back next year.

For those uninitiated, Sydney might appear expensive and no doubt it is if you decide to wine and dine at all the tourist traps. But there are plenty of value for money places around and many of the pubs offer inexpensive but quality meals. If you don't mind paying that little extra, grab a meal and enjoy the view at one of the many places at Cockle bay.

Package prices do not include flights. As the flight schedule and prices do not get confirmed until 360 days prior to departure, information on flights to and from Sydney will not be available until this time. For domestic services, best available airfares are available online once they are within booking range and we encourage you to book early. The best way to get to Sydney Football Stadium is by bus. Special event services operate from central city locations for convenient access.
