Rugby World Cup 2019, Japan
The performance of the Japanese rugby team at the 2015 Rugby World Cup saw them become the new ‘Darlings’ of the rugby world. The ‘Cherry Blossom’s’ stamped their mark on the 2015 Rugby World Cup finishing 3rd in Pool B winning 3 of their 4 matches. The team showed that they could more than hold their own against the best teams in the world with the highlight of the tournament being their heroic last minute 34 – 32 victory over South Africa. The teams results have seen them rise up the World Rugby ladder to their highest ever ranking of 10th position.
Rugby has been played in Japan for over a century and they currently have the fourth largest population of rugby union players in the world. The sport is forever evolving and with the introduction of the ‘Sunwolves’ into the 2016 Super Rugby competition Japanese Rugby players will now have the opportunity to play against the best players in the Southern Hemisphere week in week out.
