Overview

Our Wanderer Tour, hosted by Ryan Cross, starts in Aix-en-Provence for the quarter-finals then heads to the towns of Avignon, Carcassonne and Bordeaux for some incredible southern France sightseeing. We then head to Paris for the semi-finals before heading down to the Burgundy heartland of Dijon and the historic Champagne region before finishing in Paris for the final.

Places are strictly limited to 42 people and will sell out. Lock in your spot with a $250 deposit - fully refundable if you choose to cancel before 1 March, 2022!

Itinerary

Friday 13 October - Welcome to Aix-en-Provence!


Get ready for a massive weekend of rugby action as the business end of France 2023 gets underway!

Details for meeting the group at today’s hotel will be sent four weeks before the tour. Extra nights of accommodation at our tour hotel will be available to add closer to the tour.

We will have flight options and prices for economy, premium economy and business class fares available 12 months before the tour and will be in contact at that time. Flights booked through We Love Rugby will include arrival airport transfers to our hotel.

After check-in at our hotel we’ll head to the restaurants and bars of Cours Mirabeau in Aix’s old town in anticipation of the upcoming quarter-finals!

Saturday 14 October - Aix City Tour & quarter-final 1


This morning we take a city tour exploring some of Aix-en-Provence’s incredible sights. The town is a tourism highlight with stunning views around every corner. The historic centre is filled with 16th & 17th architecture and museums include the Granet art museum and the museum of tapestries.

This afternoon our transfer takes us to Marseille’s Stade Velodrome for the first of this weekend’s quarter-finals featuring the winner of Australia’s Pool C and the runner up of Pool D (England, Japan or Argentina). Tonight’s second quarter-final in Paris sees the winner of Pool B take on Pool A’s runner up.

Sunday 15 October - Quarter-final 3


We return to Marseille’s Stade Velodrome for quarter-final number 3 - runner up in Australia’s Pool C against the winner of Pool D. The last of the quarter-finals tonight features the winner of Pool A and the runner up of Pool B.

Monday 16 October - Avignon & Carcassonne


Today we travel to southwestern France stopping first in magnificent Avignon. We will tour the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Palais des Papes to where Pope Clement V moved the papal court in the 14th century.

After lunch we move on to Carcassonne where we will spend two nights.

Tuesday 17 October - Carcassonne City Tour


Today we visit the medieval fortress city of Carcassonne, first established in Roman times. The location is an amazingly preserved example of medieval life.

This evening we soak in more of the town’s historic atmosphere over some traditional Languedoc cuisine and wine!

Wednesday 18 October - Saint-Emilion Winery Tour & Bordeaux


We make our way to Bordeaux today. First stop is the town of Saint-Emilion for a tour of one of the region’s top wineries where we will learn about and sample the best the area has to offer.

We then have two nights in one of the highlights of any French tour - Bordeaux!

Thursday 19 October - Bordeaux City Tour


Boasting some of France’s boldest architecture and public spaces Bordeaux is a delight for both visitors and locals. From the incredible Place de la Bourse to bustling Sainte Catherine Street and the UNESCO-listed Saint Andre Cathedral, the city has spectacular photo opportunities at every turn. Today we take a tour of the old town centre.

This evening we head to historic city centre of Saint-Pierre where for dinner and drinks at the pick of the city’s restaurants and bars!

Friday 20 October - Paris transfer & semi-final 1


This morning we head to Paris ready for the Rugby World Cup semi-finals. Tonight we head to the incredible Stade de France for tonight’s first semi-final!

Saturday 21 October - Semi-final 2


Today there is time to explore some of the incredible sights the French capital has to offer including the Champs Elysees, Montmartre and the Parisian cultural highlights around Le Marais. Then we return to Stade de France for tonight’s second semi-final.

Sunday 22 October - Paris City Tour


Today we visit some of Paris’s many sightseeing highlights such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arch de Triomphe and Champs Elysees. Following our sightseeing tour you will have the afternoon to explore other local features such as the Louvre Museum or a cruise along the Seine.

Monday 23 October - Dijon City Tour


We head to France’s historic Burgundy region famous for the eponymous wines, food and a famous condiment! After dropping our bags at tonight’s hotel we embark on a walking tour of Dijon’s UNESCO-listed old town centre.

Dijon is home to some amazing restaurants featuring a wide range of the region’s gastronomy and one of the highlights of stay here is sampling some of what the town has to offer.

Tuesday 24 October - Burgundy Winery Tour


Today we tour one of the region’s top wineries to sample the famous pinot noir and chardonnay varieties with an opportunity to select some to take home!

Wednesday 25 October - Champagne Wine House


First stop today is a winery in France’s famed Champagne region where we will hear about some of the history of the region’s most famous product before while sampling a glass and possibly purchasing a bottle or two.

We then travel to the capital of France’s traditional Champagne region, Reims. This evening we will head to the fashionable Boulingrin neighbourhood where brasseries offer some of the best oysters and steak tartare to be found!

Thursday 26 October - Reims City Tour


For more than 1,000 years, French kings were crowned at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims. Today we will take a tour of the Reims city centre including this grand cathedral known for its stained-glass windows and Gothic carved portals, including the Smiling Angel.

We then return to Paris ahead of the conclusion of Rugby World Cup 2023!

Friday 27 October - Palace of Versailles Tour


Today we visit the world heritage listed Palace of Versailles for a tour of the incredible Royal apartments and extravagant gardens. In 1623 Louis XIII developed a hunting lodge on the grounds which was subsequently developed into a magnificent palace and gardens which soon became an enduring symbol of royal opulence.

This evening we get together at our central Paris sports bar for the bronze final, always an exciting display of attacking rugby!

A ticket to tonight's bronze final can be added to your tour during the booking process.

Saturday 28 October - Pre-Final Function & World Cup Final


This afternoon we have our pre-final function where our expert panel will share their thoughts on the tournament and preview tonight’s final.

Then tonight is the tournament’s showpiece event at Stade de France!

Sunday 29 October - Tour Ends


Today our tour ends. Airport transfers will be included for anyone who has purchased their flight through We Love Rugby, details for this will be available in October 2022. Extra nights at our tour hotel will also be available if needed.
